Instructor: Shani Leader

DP: http://sleader.weebly.com/
Course Description
The Fine Art Class at High Tech North County will include aspects of art that are important in the general knowledge and understanding of the visual arts and of the world around you. You will be introduced to media, materials, and techniques that are critical to understanding the artwork of others and the creation of your own artwork. You also will be given the opportunity to collaborate work in this class with your other classes.
Assignments
During your semester in art you will participate in numerous lessons and projects that will aide in your understanding and appreciation of art. This is a process oriented class in which participation, drafting, critique and experimentation is valued as much as successful finished works.
Essential Questions:
How does my work in art connect with my other classes and the world around me?
How do the choices I make affect the outcome of my work?
Homework/Late Work
The majority of project work will be completed in class. Homework is only given as an aid to project work. Therefore, I will not give homework unless it is necessary. Assignment due dates will be announced in class and on my calendar page of my DP. If you go on vacation or are absent for an extended period of time, I will expect that you do ALL of the work written in your contract. Students will not receive full points for a missing assignment.
Class Expectations
During your time in Art, you will be exploring new materials and ways to express yourself. It is extremely important to have a classroom of respect and encouragement for each other. Each day, students are expected to be in their seat ready to learn when class begins. Instruction is generally given in the very beginning of class, so if you are late, you miss a crucial piece of instruction. Art is only one hour long and set up and clean up take time so being ready the minute class starts is extremely important.

Suggested Classroom Supplies
The Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge. Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity.
Many families have been asking what supplies their child may need during this school year. Below, I have a recommended list of supplies that your child may bring to school. Please note that if your child does not bring the recommended supplies, the school will provide the supplies for him/her. If you have any questions/comments about this, please contact Isaac Jones or me.
We are lucky to have access to a wide variety of classroom materials in our Art Room. I would like for students to bring a pencil and sketchbook to class everyday.
